Braves’ Sean Rodriguez injured shoulder in car wreck, reportedly out 3-5 months

Braves infielder Sean Rodriguez will be sidelined three to five months as he recovers from shoulder surgery, Fox Sports first reported.

Rodriguez sustained the shoulder injury, first disclosed by the Braves on Sunday, during a Jan. 28 car wreck when a a stolen police cruiser crashed into an SUV carrying Rodriguez and his family. Initially, it was reported Rodriguez, who was driving, was uninjured. But the shoulder injury will instead cause him to miss most of the 2017 season.

Rodriguez’ wife, Giselle, was seriously injured in the wreck and sustained a broken tibia, fibula and needed surgery on her wrist.

The couple’s children, ages 2 and 8, were hospitalized for a period after the wreck but have since been released.

The driver of the stolen cruiser died in the wreck after Cheap Jerseys China the car burst into flames.

Rodriguez signed a two-year, $11.5 million deal with the Braves this offseason after spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons in Pittsburgh. He was tabbed to start at second base full time in Atlanta.
